How do I set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for my RDP email?
Answer
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is in use at Red Deer Polytechnic.
MFA uses two or more methods to confirm your identity when logging in to a system, so it is more secure than logging in with a password only.
At Red Deer Polytechnic, log in using your email address and password, and then authenticate your identity using one of these methods:
- Microsoft Authenticator app on your cell phone
- A fob from IT Services
Visit the IT Services' portal and search for 'multi factor' to learn how to setup MFA or get a fob. If you don't find the information you need, log in with your RDP username and password to submit a support ticket.
Changing MFA to Microsoft Authenticator App
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator App from Google Play or Apple Store
- Update your settings: go to aka.ms/mfasetup and sign into your RDP Microsoft (email) account
- Go to the Security Info Page
- Click on +Sign In Method
- From the dropdown menu – choose Authenticator App
- Follow the on-screen directions to complete setup
- Once setup is complete, select App Based Authentication Notification
If this does not work, please submit a support ticket so that IT staff can change this for you (log in with your RDP username and password to submit a support ticket).
