If the book I want is checked out to another person, how can I get it? (Holds)

Answer

For items owned by Red Deer Polytechnic Library which are checked out to another user, place a Hold on the item within the Library Catalogue.

  1. For an item owned by RDP Library but checked out to another user, click on the "Title" of the item or on "View All Availability."

  2. Click "Place Hold" on the right-hand side of the screen.

Optional: items which have already been checked out to another user for 2 weeks will provide you with the option to "Place Hold" or "Place Recall Hold." Use "Place Hold" if you wish to get the item without shortening the other user's current loan period. Use "Place Recall Hold" if you wish to recall the book, meaning the other user will have to return it within 7 days. Learn more about recall.

  3. You'll be prompted to sign in to your Library Account, unless you've previously signed in. Choose "Login for RDP students and staff" and use your RDP credentials if prompted.

  4. Review the details on the "Submit a Place Hold Request" screen and click "Submit".
