If RDP doesn’t have the book or article I need, how do I get it? (Interlibrary Loan)

Request items not owned by RDP Library through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Use the information below to learn about the ILL process:


Timeline

ILL requests will take 1 to 3 weeks to arrive. Delivery dates are out of our control, and there are instances where we won't be able to fulfill some requests.


Status

Available for Pick-Up: You'll receive an email to your RDP email when your interlibrary loan item is ready for pick-up at the Red Deer Polytechnic Library Desk.

Desktop Delivery: When available from our partner libraries, an article or book chapter may be delivered directly to your RDP email inbox.

Unable to Fulfill Request: If we are unable to fulfill your interlibrary loan request, the Library will communicate with you via your your RDP email.

To check on the status of an ILL request you've submitted, email ill.library@rdpolytech.ca.


Request via LibrarySearch

1. Use LibrarySearch to find library materials. For an item not owned by RDP Library, click on the "Title" of the item.

  • Item location will be "At Alberta Libraries" or "At Canada Libraries".

2. Click "Request Item through Interlibrary Loan" on the right-hand side of the screen.

3. Sign in to your Library Account (unless you've previously signed in) to auto-populate the form with your information.

  • Choose "Login for RDP students and staff" and use your RDP credentials if prompted.

4. Review the details and click "Submit request" at the bottom of the screen.

5. You will see an on-screen confirmation to let you know your request has been successfully submitted.


Request via a Database

1. Use a database to find information. For an item not owned by RDP Library, click on the "Access Now" link (wording of the link may vary between database providers).

2. Sign in to your Library Account (unless you've previously signed in) to auto-populate the form with your information.

  • Choose "Login for RDP students and staff" and use your RDP credentials if prompted.

3. Review the details and click "Submit request" at the bottom of the screen.

4. You will see an on-screen confirmation to let you know your request has been successfully submitted.


Request via the ILL Form

If the ILL link isn't available for an item in the library catalogue or in a database, submit your ILL request using this form:

ILL Loan Period

The ILL loan period is determined by the lending library and is out of our control. You will be notified of the loan period when you check out your ILL.


Renew an ILL

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials may be eligible for renewal at the discretion of the lending library.

  1. Email RDP Library's Interlibrary Loan staff at ill.library@rdpolytech.ca to inquire about renewing an ILL. 
  2. We will contact the lending library to request a renewal.
  3. We will email you to either:
    • inform you of the new due date, or,
    • inform you that a renewal is not possible and that the item is still due on the original due date.
