What is the RDP Library Reserve Collection?

Answer

Reserves are high-demand items available to students for short-term loans. Our Reserve Collection is located at the Library Desk on the Main Floor. Several items make up our collection:

Textbook Collection

The Library has purchased select textbooks for students to borrow. We recognize the financial burden of purchasing textbooks and hope that this helps ease the load for some students.

Since we can’t purchase every textbook for every class offered at Red Deer Polytechnic, these are the criteria we consider:

  • high cost (over $100)
  • first-year or introductory course
  • large enrollment

Most textbooks on Reserve can be signed out for two hours at a time. Search the Reserve Catalogue to see if the textbook you need is in our Reserve Collection.

Course-Specific Books and Readings

Many instructors place high-demand items on Reserve to ensure students have access, including required course readings, textbooks, solution manuals, and more. Loan periods vary and are determined by each instructor. Search the Reserve Catalogue to locate Reserves for your class.

Laptops

Laptops are available for all students to sign out and use anywhere on campus for up to 4 hours. Check this list to find out what software is installed on the Library laptops. Need a mouse and charging cord? We have those too.

Electronic Equipment

Need to do an assignment or presentation but don't have the tech to do it? We likely have what you need!

  • Cameras
  • Camcorders
  • Tripods
  • GoPro
  • Tablets
  • Mobile TVs
  • Chargers, cables, and adaptors
  • And more

Check this list to learn about equipment available in the Library; some equipment can be booked in advance.

Nursing Reserve Items

Nursing students can sign out various nursing textbooks and supplies, including handwashing kits, assessment kits, blood pressure cuffs, and more. Loan periods vary and are determined by the Nursing department.

Other Reserves

Our Reserve Collection also includes some unusual and wonderful things like:

  • Bone kits for studying anatomy
  • Green screen
  • Button maker and supplies
  • Wireless headphones
  • Light therapy lamps
  • Board games
  • And more!

Loan periods and availability vary.
