How will the Library be impacted during construction in May and June 2023?

Answer

Construction will occur in the Library in May and June, 2023, to upgrade existing lighting fixtures to new LED lighting and to build a new Tutoring Centre on the east side of Floor 2.

The project timelines and impact are outlined below, and will be updated as we receive new information.

Floor Two

  • May 1 to 31: Lighting project
    • The work will happen in sections (East, West, Curriculum). Exact timelines for each section are to be determined.
    • The Tutoring Centre (room 2006F) will remain accessible throughout this time.
    • There will be no public access to the Library Collection. Ask Library staff for assistance with retrieving materials.
    • There will be no access to Floor 2 Study Rooms.
    • There will be no access to Floor 2 washrooms.
  • June 1 to 30: Library Collection A-L (east side)
    • There will be no public access to the A-L section of the Library Collection. Ask Library staff for assistance with retrieving materials.  
  • May 15 to June 30: New Tutoring Centre (east side)
    • May 15 to May 19: Light noise will be emitted during this time, as the site is prepared.
    • May 23 to June 2: Moderate to heavy noise is expected, as demolition occurs and construction begins, including steel cutting and welding. Students may need to find an alternative space for studying or writing online exams.
    • June 5 to 16: Moderate noise is expected, as construction occurs.
    • June 19 to 30: Light noise is expected, as flooring, finishes, and furniture are installed.

Floor One

  • June 1 to 19: New lighting project
    • The work will happen in sections (East, West, centre). Exact timelines for each section are to be determined.
    • There will be no access to Floor 1 Study Rooms or Cubicles (exact dates to be determined).
    • There will be no access to Floor 1 washrooms (exact dates to be determined).
    • June 5 to 9
      • No access to office spaces. Alternative locations will be communicated as they are determined.
      • The Tutoring Centre (room 2006F) may be relocated, to accommodate staff who need alternate office space. Exact location to be determined.
    • June 12 to 19
      • The Library will close at 6pm Monday to Thursday, to allow for evening construction.
      • The Library Desk will be relocated.
      • There may be an alternate Library entrance; details to be confirmed.
