Is there a quiet study space in the Library, or on campus?
Answer
Due to the open architecture of the Library, sound travels throughout the building. While we can't provide silent study space, we've done our best to identify some quieter spaces.
Room 2006J (upstairs in the Library)
This is the quietest space in the Library. 2006J has a door to shut out external noise, plus a white sound machine to mask ambient noise. There are a variety of individual seating options, but be aware that more than one person may be in the room at the same time, and that noise may still enter the room from adjacent areas. Upon request, staff will assist with ensuring a quiet atmosphere in this room, but that will not include ensuring that noise does not enter from adjacent areas.
Library Floor 2
Floor 2 is typically a bit quieter than Floor 1. There are a variety of seating options, including individual study carrels, tables, and soft seating.
Note: there is no longer an expectation that the east side of Floor 2 will be quiet, other than Room 2006J.
Room 1006R (Library Main Floor)
1006R, also known as the Library Instruction Lab, is available for use when no class is scheduled in the space. Check the weekly schedule posted beside the door to the Lab. The Lab is a good option for those looking to use a desktop computer in a quieter setting.
Quiet Spaces on Campus
There are some fairly quiet spaces on campus which you may wish to explore. Check the Campus Maps for locations.
