How do I submit assignments in Blackboard?
Answer
You may be required to submit assignments through Blackboard.
Submitting Assignments
Depending on how the course has been set up by your instructor, you may need to attach your assignment (browse your computer for the file, then upload it). Files can be attached to assignments (multiple files) or discussions (only one file).
You might just need to type your answers in a box and submit; if so, a good idea is to type answers in a Word document first, and then copy and paste into Blackboard when you're ready.
Submitting Assignments using SafeAssign
SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention tool.
If your instructor uses SafeAssign, they will create a place for you to upload your assignment within Blackboard. SafeAssign will then check your assignment for plagiarism, comparing it against the following databases:
- Internet (checks against documents available for public access)
- ProQuest ABI/Inform Database (1,100+ publications from 1990s to present)
- Institutional Database (contains all RDP assignments submitted to SafeAssign)
- Global Reference Database (contains papers volunteered by students from Blackboard institutions to help prevent cross-institutional plagiarism)
SafeAssign will not check against RDP Library article databases.

Interpreting the SafeAssign Report
Your instructor may have set up SafeAssign to allow you to upload a draft of an assignment and view a detailed report.
The SafeAssign Originality Report identifies matches found between your submitted draft assignment and existing sources, and identifies all matching blocks of text. It is your and your instructor's responsibility to investigate whether the matching text is properly referenced or not.
